Story of Byju Raveendran
Byju Raveendran is the well known founder and CEO of Byju’s. His company is the first company in Asia to be backed by the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative. Byju Raveendran did his schooling in a Malayalam-medium school in Azhikode, Kannur district. Both his parents were worked as teachers. In earlier school days he used to miss a lot of classes because of his interest in sports.
He was largely interested in many sports items in school till the university level. This schedule forced him to start learning own by asking questions. Byju Raveendran did pre-university at S N college and B.tech from government engineering college, Kannur. After graduation he started working as an engineer abroad.
Byju Raveendran visited Bangalore during one of his work breaks, to meet friends. He was with them during the preparations for the CAT exam and taken the test. Once the result came he was surprised that he scored 100 percentile, without actually having much good preparations.
Later his friends encouraged him to teach and prepare them for the exam. Within a short time from a small group it became a large auditorium packed with students. Then Byju Raveendran quit his job as an engineer and took up teaching full-time. Then he launched Byju’s-The Learning App in August 2015.
The app follow a freemium model in which students get access to the content for free about 15 days, post which they can subscribe for advanced levels. The first investment came when hundreds of students attending a video class on a campus. Later funds raised to accelerate the product development and to increase reach. Now the team working towardd developing a world-class product which will cater to students with every educational needs
