First Vaccine Against Rota virus Launched by Health Ministry of India

This is happy to hear that the First Vaccine Against Rota virus has just Launched by Health Ministry of India. This is to slash the prevalence of violence-borne diarrhoea in parts of India. Indian health ministry offers this vaccine and which is available free of cost at public healthcare facilities, initially in four states.

First Vaccine Against Rota virus launch is a historical mark in Indian health system. Rota virus is highly contagious and infects majority of children before their first birthday. With this launch, India can immunise 27 million children across the country to prevent diseases caused by Rota virus.

First Vaccine Against Rota virus can save millions of children. Rota in most cases cause severe diarrhoea among children, leading to hospitalisation and death. Rota virus vaccine later may introduced in the country’s Universal Immunisation Programme.

First Vaccine Against Rota virus will be introduced in four States — Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh. This will be available from government health facilities to children from six weeks of age. There are 453,000 child deaths due to Rota virus every year globally.
