Here we are informing you about a campaign called Jan Aushadhi, which is initiated in 2008 by the Department of Pharmaceuticals in association with Central Pharma Public Sector Undertakings.
It makes good quality medicines for the masses at affordable prices. The chief aim of the Jan Aushadhi is to create awareness through multimedia publicity and education. It is a program, which involves the Central government, State governments, private Sector, Public Sector enterprises, NGOs, Cooperative bodies and other institutions.
Their vision is to reduce the health care budget of the Indian people by giving quality generic medicines at lesser price. They mainly focused on the poor and disadvantaged sections. Besides, there is a dedicated outlet which called “Jan Aushadhi Kendra “, through which the scheme, government offers medicines in various districts of the country for cheap price.
Their mission is to create public awareness about generic drugs and offers health care products under the scheme. “No Profit, No Loss” is a principle followed by Jan Aushadhi. The BPPI ( Bureau of Pharma Public Sector Undertakings of India ) gets all the financial support from Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India. Jan Aushadhi have set up a lot of stores which provide generic medicine at lesser prices.
These drugs are equal in quality and potency as expensive branded medicine. The prescription of the doctor is required for purchasing the schedule medicines. But in the case of OTC products, there is no need of any prescription. There are 87 Jan Aushadhi stores presently functional. From 8 Am to 8 PM is the working hours of this campaign. In future it will become a self sustaining business model without depending the government.
