1. Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla said to be one of the Great Scientists in the World History. Nikola Tesla is  the inventor of the Tesla coil and alternating current machinery. He was born between July 9 and July 10, 1856. Tesla had a terrific sense of humor. Media and many people  characterized Tesla and inventor Thomas Edison as enemies.

Nikola Tesla, Early in his career worked for Edison. He designed direct current generators. Edison was pushing for direct current, while Tesla was interested with the alternating current. He was an environmentalist also. He also suffered from insomnia and obsessive compulsive behaviors (OCD). He was never a wealthy man. He died in the year of 1943.

 Louis Pasteur 2. Louis Pasteur

Louis Pasteur is another well known scientist born on December 27, 1882 at France. He died on September 28, 1895. He is well known for his works in the fields of chemistry and microbiology. This french chemist and microbiologist is well famous for discoveries related to vaccination, microbial fermentation and pasteurization. He was an average student in his early years. Fishing and sketching were his interests.

He worked as a professor of physics at the Dijon Lycée in 1848. Later he became professor of chemistry at the University of Strasbourg. Louis Pasteur married on May 29, 1849, and had five children. Only two of whom survived to adulthood and this tragedy were his motivations for finding solution to cure infectious diseases. His famous quote “In the field of observation, chance favors only the prepared mind”.

3. Galileo

Galileo is one of the Great Scientists in the World History. He born on February 15, 1564. He died on the 8th of January 1642. He was a brilliant  ground breaking astronomer, physicist, mathematician, philosopher and inventor. Galileo first built  a telescope with around 3x magnification and then improved to 30x magnification. With this, he used to observe the skies.

in 161, Galileo found that 4 objects surrounding Jupiter that behaved unlike stars. These are Jupiter’s four largest satellite moons. This consists of, Callisto, Europa and Ganymede known as Galilean satellites. He believed that the nature of the Earth’s rotation causes the tides. Famous Galileo quote “In questions of science the authority of a thousand is not worth the humble reasoning of a single individual.”

Marie Curie

4. Marie Curie

Marie Curie is world famous with the discovery of two new chemical elements – radium and polonium. She is the only person, ever won Nobel Prizes in both physics and chemistry. Marie Curie born in Warsaw, Poland on November 7, 1867. She married Pierre Curie. He had a Ph.D. in physics himself and had become a professor. Marie Curie began to investigate the chemical element uranium.

Marie Curie was awarded her Ph.D. by the Sorbonne in June 1903. Marie Curie was the first woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize and she was the first female professor at the University of Paris. During World War 1, 1914 – 1918, she set up radiology medical units near battle lines and taken x rays of wounded soldiers. She was aware that some of these rays could be used to treat tumors. Marie Curie died at July 4, 1934,  killed by aplastic anemia.

Albert Einstein

5. Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein is said to be one of the Great Scientists in the World History.  He was a was a German-born theoretical physicist. He born on 14 March 1879. He consider him as an agnostic, not an atheist. He was a slow learner when he was a child and spoke very slowly.

Brain of Albert Einstein stole by a pathologist, who made his body’s autopsy. This is said to be kept in a jar for 20 years. His brain has a parietal lobe and that was 15% more larger than average. He always appeared with a disheveled look. He had uncombed hair and he never wear socks. He found the formula E=mc2.

Charles Darwin

6. Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin was a famous English naturalist offered amazing ideas on evolution and natural selection. He born in England on 12th of February 1809. His works on natural selection is very famous. A five year voyage on the HMS Beagle is a detailed research by him in the field of natural selection.

He visited various ecologically diverse regions like Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Chile, Australia, the Falkland Islands. His book  ‘On the Origin of Species’, became a landmark in area of evolutionary biology. Another famous book is ‘Expression of Emotions in Man and Animals’.

His famous quote ““Owing to this struggle for life, any variation, however slight and from whatever cause proceeding, if it be in any degree profitable to an individual of any species, in its infinitely complex relationship to other organic beings and to external nature, will tend to the preservation of that individual, and will generally be inherited by its offspring.”

Thomas Edison

7. Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison is one of the Great Scientists in the World History. Edison was born in 1847 in Ohio. Edison’s mother was a school teacher. She pulled him out of school and teach Edison so well when he was deemed “addled” by his school teacher. Edison’s mother let him set up a chemistry lab at home. He had scarlet fever when he was a child and this made him almost deaf.

Thomas Edison inventions list in endless and this includes Phonograph – 1877, Telegraph – 1874, Electrical Vote Recorder (first patent), Universal Stock Ticker – 1869, Electric Light Bulb – 1879, Electric Lighting System, Mimeograph, Storage Battery – 1909, Dictating Machine, Telephone Transmitter – 1876, Kinetoscope – 1889, Electric Pen – 1879 and Talking Doll – 1890.

Michael Faraday

8. Michael Faraday

Michael Faraday was born in England on the 22nd of September 1791. He is very famous with his works on electro-chemistry and electro-magnetism. The electromagnetic field concept and laws of electrolysis are his offerings in physics. He found electromagnetic rotary devices, simple Bunsen burner etc. He coined the name electrode, cathode, anode and ion. Benzene and nature of chlorine discovered by him.

He refused to assist the British government for making chemical weapons for use in war. He died on the 25th of August 1867. His famous quote “But still try, for who knows what is possible” A Unit of electricity was also named after him In his honor, the farad.

Sir Isaac Newton

He is well known for calculus, Optics, Binomial series, universal gravitation, Newtonian mechanics etc.

Niels Bohr

10. Niels Bohr

Niels Henrik David Bohr Born on 7 October 1885 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He became famous with the discoveries of the electron and radioactivity at the end of the 19th century. He also find a theory for the hydrogen atom based on quantum theory. Bohr’s theory is so popular and it explains why atoms emitted light in fixed wavelengths. His father greatly responsible for awakening his interest in physics.

His early education was at the Gammelholm Grammar School. Niels Henrik David Bohr received his Master’s degree in Physics in 1909. One of his sons, named Aage Bohr, carried Niels’ work forward. He became a physicist and awarded the Nobel Prize in physics in 1975.
