According to government notification, Every person who has been allotted permanent account number as on the 1st day of July 2017 required to intimate his Aadhaar number to the Principal Director General of Income-tax (Systems) or Director General of Income-tax (Systems). For those who don’t want to do this linking or those who don’t even have an Aadhaar card need to think.
According to the Supreme Court of India those who do not wish to get an Aadhaar no need to worry but just for now. Those persons PAN will not be canceled now. You have to be quoted this in all banking / financial transactions. But later you will have to get biometric number while filing your returns. This is also applicable for those who are applying for PAN cards or opening bank accounts.
PAN and Aadhaar card linking is not exempted for those who do not required to file income tax returns if your income is below the mentioned level. For those with spelling error on one of the cards and cant link both, need to get a correction made either in your PAN or Aadhaar card by visiting visit National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) website and UIDAI (AAdhaar) portal respectively.
