Famous lakes in India is the most searching topic and every love to spend some time near those beautiful and cool lake water. India consists of large number of lakes, rives & seas spreaded from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Lakes are classified into two types namely man made & natural lakes.
Those natural lakes are classified as fresh water lake & brackish water lake. All the lakes in India are a major source of tourist attraction. Famous lakes in India includes the below listed lakes. 1. Gurudongmar lake
Gurudongamar is considered as the largest lake in the world located in Sikkim. Sikkim is the land for lakes and the main source of tourism is it’s natural lakes. Gurondongmar lake is the beautiful lake and the biggest lake in Sikkim.
2. Loktak lake
Loktak lake is the largest freshwater lake situated in Manipur. This lake is often termed as floating lake and is the ancient lake which has been a great source of economy for Manipur. Loktak lake generates hydro power generation, irrigation supply and is a wildlife source.
3. Wular lake
Wular lake is the biggest fresh water lake in Asia and is situated in Jammu & Kashmir. This lake is surrounded with huge mountains, and forests. Wular lake consists of green water and is rich habitat for fish, birds & wildlife.
4. Dal Lake
Dal lake is the most beautiful lake in Kashmir and is surrounded with natural beauty, landscape. Dal lake is considered as the most beautiful lake in Kashmir and is the major source of tourism. Dal lake is located in Srinagar , the city famous for mosques. Dal lake is the second largest lake in Jammu & Kashmir. 5. Pushkar lake
Pushkar lake is an artificial lake situated in Rajasthan in Ajmer district surrounded with deserts. Pushkar lake is famous for religious course like every year thousands of pilgrims reach this sacred lake. It is considered that on the full moon day (karthika Purnima) taking bath in this lake one will get moksha.
6. Chilka lake
Chilka lake is situated in Orissa and is the largest brackish water lake, Asia’s largest inland salt water lagoon. This is the largest lake in India. Chilka is the queen of natural scenery in Orissa and is named as Swiss lake. Other attractions in this lake include fishing boats, migratory birds.
7. Vembanad lake
Vembanad lake is the longest lake in Kerala. Vembanad is famous for houseboat races & snake races,(Vallam Kali) held in August. Vembannad lake is located in Kumarakom, Kottayam district. Kumarakom bird life sanctuary is located on the eastern bank of Vemaband lake and is famous attraction for tourists.
8. Bhimtal lake
Bhimtal lake is the most beautiful lake situated in Nainital and is the major attraction for tourists. The lake is named after second Pandava named Bhima. Bhimtal lake is considered as the largest lake in Nainital. Bhimtal lake is surrounded by Kumaoun hills.
9. Upper Lake, Bhopal.
Upper Lake, Bhopal is one of the best known tourist spot in India, also called as Bhojtal. This lake lies on the western side of the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal. This is an important source of drinking water. According to sources, the lake has been built by the ParmaraRaja Bhoj.
