1. Sri Padmanabha Temple
This is located in Thiruvananthapuram and well built in Kerala style and the Dravidian style of architecture. You can see high walls, 16th-century Gopuram etc. This is said to be a replica of the Adikesava Perumal temple at Thiruvattar, Kanyakumari. The principal deity Vishnu worshiped here as”Anantha Shayanam”. Only those who profess the Hindu faith with strict dress code are allowed here.
2. Kovalam Beach
Kovalam is a beach town located 18 km south of the city center. There are three beaches separated by rocky outcroppings. The total length of the beach is 17 km. These three beaches together form the famous Kovalam beach. These are the Lighthouse Beach, Hawah Beach and Samudra Beach. The old Vizhinjam Lighthouse on Kurumkal hillock is at Lighthouse Beach. Eve’s Beach or Hawa Beach features high rock promontory and unique aquarelle on moonlit nights. The Samudra Beach gets a large promontory and you can see local fishermen here.
3. Neyyar dam and Wildlife Sanctuary
Neyyar dam is a popular gravity dam on the Neyyar River in Thiruvananthapuram. This is located on the foot of the Western Ghats. There is approx 30 km distance from Thiruvananthapuram. The dam completed in 1958. Main attractions includes Lion safari park, Boating, Deer park, Crocodile Rehabilitation and Research Centre, Miniature wild life sanctuary, Lake garden, Swimming pool, Watch tower, Elephant riding etc.
4. Kanakakunnu Palace & Kowdiar Palace
Kanakakkunnu Palace is located at the Thiruvananthapuram. This is near to the Napier museum. Many cultural meets and programmes conducts here. An all India Dance Festival conducts here from October to March by the Department of Tourism yearly.
Kowdiar Palace was built in 1934 by Maharajah Sree Chithira Thirunal, son of Sethu Parvathi Bayi. This is for marriage his only sister, Maharani Karthika Thirunal Lakshmi Bayi with Lt. Col. G. V. Raja. This Palace’s architectural work is very famous. There are over 150 rooms and the entry is restricted.
5. Attukal Bhagavathy Temple
The Attukal Bhagavathy Temple is a well known Hindu religious shrine at Attukal. Here goddess Bhadrakali (Kannaki) is worshipped as the goddess of prosperity and salvation. This temple is famous foe the renowned annual Attukal Pongala festival. This is also figured in the Guinness Book of World Records as the single largest gathering of women for a religious activity. The temple is situated near the center of and also only 2 kilometres away from Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
6. Napier Museum
The museum is just 6 km away from the heart of city. You can visit from 10.00 – 16.45 hrs. This will be Closed on January 26, August 15, Mondays, Wednesday forenoons, Thiruvonam and Mahanavami. This is established in 1855 and named after Lord Napier, the Governor of Madras. There are ancient ornaments, historic artefacts, bronze idols, temple chariot, ivory carvings etc.
7. Thiruvananthapuram Zoo
The Thiruvananthapuram Zoo is a popular place which is located in the city of Thiruvananthapuram. This is located over 55 acres of woodland, lakes, and lawns. There are animals and birds like lion-tailed macaque, Nilgiri langur, Indian rhinoceros, Asiatic lion, royal Bengal tiger, white tiger, leopard, nine Asian elephants, giraffes, hippos, zebras, and Cape buffalos. There is a snake farm called The Reptile House with numerous poisonous and non-poisonous snakes including 7 Anacondas.

Sree Chitra Art Gallery established in 1935. This is located near to the Napier Museum. This gallery is inaugurated by Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma. There is a unique collection of traditional and contemporary paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, Nicholas Roerich, Svetoslav Roerich, Jamini Roy, Rabindranath Tagore, V. S. Valiathan, C. Raja Raja Varma, and K. C. S. Paniker.
9. Kerala Science and Technology Museum
Kerala Science and Technology Museum is a very popular one which is established by Government of Kerala, India, in 1984. This is located in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city, in Kerala.
