Rohit Shetty is an Indian film director and producer born on 14 March 1973 to Ratna, a Bollywood junior artiste, and actor/stuntman M. B. Shetty who had acted in Hindi and Kannada films. He has four sisters. Shetty married Maya Rohit Shetty in 2005 and they had a son, Ishaan. His famous movies include “Golmaal”, “Golmaal Returns”, “Golmaal 3”, “Singham”, “Bol Bachchan”, “Singham Returns”, “Dilwale” and “Chennai Express”, etc.
At the age of 17 he started his career as an assistant director with Kuku Kohli during Phool Aur Kaante. Then he assisted him in “Ek Aur Kohinoor” which was never released, “Suhaag”, “Haqeeqat” (1995) and “Zulmi”. After that, he started working with Anees Bazmee on Pyaar to Hona Hi Tha, followed by Hindustan Ki Kasam and Raju Chacha. His first debuted film as an independent director was Zameen in 2003 with Ajay Devgan. His 2006 comedy film Golmaal: Fun Unlimited starring Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Sharman Joshi was the first hit movie.
One of the block buster movies of Rohit shetty named” Chennai Express” staring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, was released on 9 August 2013. It became the highest-grossing Bollywood film in the domestic market. The film earned over US$17.4 million to become the third-highest-grossing Bollywood film overseas. The film also set a number of box office records, for the highest opening-day gross, highest paid preview, highest single-day gross, biggest opening weekend, highest opening week and the fastest film to reach 100 crore and 2 billion in the domestic market.
He also participated in a television show “Comedy Circus” as a judge. He was also a part of the 5th season of television stunt game show Fear Factor, Khatron Ke Khiladi in 2014 as the host taking over from the previous host Akshay Kumar. Shetty directed the 4th series of the Golmaal series “Golmaal Again” in October 2017. The film became the first Hindi blockbuster of the year.
