Xiaomi is a Chinese electronics and software company headquartered in Beijing founded in 2010 by serial entrepreneur Lei Jun. Xiaomi the world’s 5th largest Smartphone Company that designs, develops, and sells smart phones, mobile apps, laptops and related consumer electronics. Xiaomi means “little rice” and the MI in the logo stands for “Mobile Internet” or “Mission Possible”.
The co founders of Xiaomi include Lin Bin, vice president of the Google China Institute of Engineering; Dr Zhou Guangping, senior director of the Motorola Beijing R&D center; Liu De, department head of industrial design at the University of Science and Technology Beijing; Li Wanqiang, general manager of Kingsoft Dictionary; Wong Kong-Kat, principal development manager; and Hong Feng, senior product manager for Google China.
The first Smartphone released by Xiaomi, Xiaomi Mi1 Smartphone in August 2011 and has rapidly gained market share in China to become China’s largest Smartphone Company in 2014. It is shipped with Xiaomi’s MIUI firmware, based on Android, and resembles both Samsung’s TouchWiz and Apple’s iOS Xiaomi has 15,000 employees in China, India, Malaysia, Singapore and is expanding to other countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines and South Africa.
